Oklahoma Law allows the owner(s) of residential real estate property to file for and receive a Homestead Exemption on their property if:
(1) they were the owners of record on January 1 and
(2) are living in the property. 
In addition to receiving a $1000.00 reduction in the assessed value of the property and tax savings of $90 - $135 per year, filing for the Homestead Exemption also establishes a legal record of Homestead of a residence.
